San José Learns

Overview: San José Learns is dedicated to empowering young learners in grades TK-3 from under-resourced communities through high-quality out-of-school time programs.

Background: Launched by Mayor Sam Liccardo in 2015, this initiative is committed to closing the achievement gap, particularly for students of color.

  • 23% of students with disabilities met or exceeded ELA standard
  • How It Works: Through an annual grant program administered by the Library Foundation, eligible school districts receive resources to maximize their budgets and partner with exceptional program providers.
