Overview

Rural Older Adult Mini-Grant (ROAM)

Funder: Association of Oregon Community Mental Health Programs (AOCMHP), with funding from Oregon Health Authority (OHA)

Geographic Scope: Oregon, with focus on rural and remote communities

Purpose: Support social engagement and connection among isolated rural and remote older adults to increase social connection, decrease isolation, and promote suicide prevention.

Focus Areas:

  • Social connection projects for rural older adults

  • Activities that build a sense of connectedness and community engagement

  • Creative approaches matched to unique community needs
  • Geographic Definition:

  • Rural: Any geographic area in Oregon 10+ miles from the centroid of a population center of 40,000+ people

  • Remote (Frontier): Any county with 6 or fewer people per square mile

  • Organizations in urban counties can apply if project focuses on rural/remote communities
  • Eligible Applicants:

  • County and municipal organizations

  • 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations

  • Community Mental Health Programs

  • Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics

  • Area Agencies on Aging

  • Aging and Disability Resource Connections

  • Community-based organizations

  • Tribal elder programs

  • Community-based grassroots organizations (with fiscal sponsor)
  • Priority Populations (receive additional review points):

  • Service Members, Veterans, and Families (SMVF)

  • Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)

  • LGBTQIA2S+

  • Immigrants/refugees
