ROPS Rebate Program

Geographic Scope: Wisconsin (primarily)

Purpose: Provides financial assistance for farmers to purchase and install Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) systems on tractors. ROPS refers to a tractor cab or roll bar intended to protect farmers from injuries caused when tractors overturn.

Key Facts:

• ROPS are 99% effective in preventing injury and death when used with a seatbelt in the event of a tractor overturn
• ROPS are 70% effective even without a seatbelt
• More than half of all tractors in use in Wisconsin don't have this protection because tractors manufactured before 1985 are not equipped with ROPS
• Tractor overturns are the leading cause of death on farms according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health

Award Amount: 70% of the cost of purchasing and installing ROPS, up to a maximum of $865 per tractor

Funding Source: Donations through the Auction of Champions, an annual fundraiser for farm health and safety in Marshfield

Application Process

Farmers can enroll in the program at agricultural events such as the Marshfield Farm Show. Based on the 2026 program information:

1. Register at promotional events (e.g., Farm Show)
2. Register your tractor(s) in the program
3. Selected participants may receive ROPS systems as giveaway prizes
4. Receive rebate funds (70% of cost, up to $865) to help purchase and install ROPS
