Funder: Marshfield Clinic National Farm Medicine Center (NFMC)

Program Purpose: Improve farm safety by providing rebates for the purchase and installation of Rollover Protective Structures (ROPS) on tractors

Eligible Applicants: Farmers with tractors manufactured before 1985 (lacking ROPS)

Geographic Scope: Wisconsin and surrounding agricultural areas

Award Information:

Rebate amount: 70% of the cost of purchasing and installing ROPS, up to $865 per tractor

Eligibility: Tractors manufactured before 1985 (more than half of all tractors in Wisconsin lack ROPS)

Key Facts:

ROPS with seatbelt: 99% effective in preventing injury and death from tractor rollovers

ROPS without seatbelt: 70% effective

Tractor rollover accidents are the leading cause of death on farms according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health

Tractors manufactured in the U.S. since 1985 come equipped with ROPS

Funding Source: Donations through the Auction of Champions, an annual fundraiser for farm health and safety in Marshfield

Recent Activity (2026): NFMC enrolled 110 farmers who registered 183 tractors in the rebate program during the Marshfield Farm Show (Feb. 20-21, 2026)
