Program Name: Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) Rebate Program

Funder: National Farm Medicine Center (NFMC), Marshfield Clinic, funded by donations through the Auction of Champions

Geographic Scope: Wisconsin (primary focus)

Purpose: Provides financial assistance to farmers for purchasing and installing rollover protective structures (ROPS) on tractors to prevent injuries from tractor overturn accidents.

• Eligibility: Farmers with tractors that lack ROPS protection (primarily tractors manufactured before 1985 or older equipment)

• Effectiveness: When used with a seatbelt, ROPS are 99% effective in preventing injury and death in tractor overturn events; 70% effective even without seatbelt
• Background: More than half of all tractors in use in Wisconsin lack ROPS protection due to the long working life of the machines

Program Activity:
As of February 2024, enrolled 110 farmers registering 183 tractors. Also provides promotional giveaways of complete ROPS systems valued at $1,100+.

Application Process

Enrollment Method:

1. Register at the Marshfield Farm Show or other promotional events
2. Provide tractor information and farmer details
3. Receive rebate program enrollment confirmation

Payment Process:

• Farmers purchase and install ROPS
• Rebate covers 70% of documented costs up to $865
