River Clean-Up Grants

Program Status: Active, second year of designation (as of 2015)

Geographic Scope: Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River (73.4 miles)

• From the confluence of the East and West Branches of the Delaware below Hancock downstream to Railroad Bridge No. 2 near Sparrowbush
• Designated for protection under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act in 1978

Focus Areas:

• River and shoreline clean-up projects
• Litter removal from the bi-state river and its banks
• Local coordination of clean-up efforts

Eligible Applicants: UDC member municipalities

Award Amount Examples (2015 Round):

• Damascus Township – $1,000
• Town of Tusten – $900
• Town of Lumberland – $775
• Lackawaxen Township – $736
• Town of Highland – $661
• Total distributed: $4,072

Funding Source: Federal funding allocation received through the National Park Service Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River budget

Goal: Encourage coordination of local clean-ups to maintain the pristine quality of the Upper Delaware River

Application Process

1. Submit Application: Submit application to UDC (contact office for form)
2. Approval: Applications reviewed and approved at UDC monthly meeting
3. Project Completion: Clean-up projects must be completed by the specified deadline (typically August 21)
4. Reimbursement: One-time reimbursement payment upon project completion

• Applicant must be a UDC member municipality
• Project must be a river and/or shoreline clean-up effort
• Project must be completed by the specified deadline to be eligible for reimbursement
