Responsive Grants

Overview: The CFNRV Responsive Grant Program responds to ongoing or emergent community needs as recognized by area nonprofits serving those needs directly.

Geographic Scope: Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski, and Wythe counties, and the city of Radford, Virginia

Eligibility:

Registered 501(c)(3) organizations

Units of local government (schools, libraries, etc.)

Serving the New River Valley region

Funding Focus:

General operating support grants

Flexible use of grant dollars at grantee's discretion

Support for core operating expenses of high-performing organizations

Award Details: Up to $4,000 per grant

Status: Active program. In 2020 and 2021, the program offered general operating support with maximum flexibility due to COVID-19 pandemic impacts. The foundation recognizes that nonprofits continue to deal with limited funding and increased demand for services.

Program Notes:

Responsive Grants are made from CFNRV's numerous endowed funds created by individuals, businesses, and families

In 2020, CFNRV introduced an online grant catalog allowing endowed fund holders to support grants using a simple online tool

Last year, an additional $10,000 in support from the public came through the grant catalog

Over $150,000 in responsive grants were awarded in 2020
