Giving Today to Shape Tomorrow The Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV)’s vision is a productive, healthy, and vibrant New River Valley. Our mission is to encourage charitable giving, nurture collaboration, and invest in lasting solutions that enhance the quality of life for all in the New River Valley. We help individuals, families, and businesses create and sustain a vibrant, supportive community, now and for generations to come. We match our donors’ unique interests, ideas, and passions with the charitable organizations making a positive impact in our region every day. Beginning in 1994, the CFNRV has worked with donors to create nearly 230 endowed funds. These funds support nonprofit organizations and students in our community each year through grants and scholarships. We are a publicly supported, nonprofit organization classified as a 501c3 by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Additionally, we are confirmed in compliance with the Council on Foundation’s National Standards for Community Foundations. This is a prestigious designation demonstrating excellence in philanthropic practice. How Do We Work? The Community Foundation of the New River Valley was established in 1994 and serves the counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski, and Wythe, and the City of Radford. We work with donors to establish and manage permanent, charitable endowments benefitting the New River Valley.We invest and grow our funds to address current and future community needs in all aspects of community life including animal welfare, arts and culture, civic affairs, education, environment, health, poverty, support, parenting, and care.We convene nonprofit, government, business, and community leaders to identify and understand our community’s challenges, develop long-term solutions, and provide start-up and ongoing financial and in-kind support.We build the effectiveness and capacity of our nonprofit leaders by providing technical support and professional development opportunities. Responsive Grant Program The Responsive Grant Program at the CFNRV is an annual grant program intended to respond to ongoing or emergent community needs as recognized by the area nonprofits serving those needs directly. This program focuses on providing up to $4,000 in operating support so nonprofits have the flexibility to put grant dollars where they are needed most. Please see FAQs for additional guidelines.

Ineligibility

We do not support civic or membership organizations that redistribute money to nonprofit organizations.We do not support programs that proselytize or that require clients to engage in religious instruction or activities.
