Recovery Voucher Program

Program Type: Direct service program (not a traditional grant, but a funding assistance program)

Geographic Scope: Wayne County, North Carolina

Purpose: Assist individuals and families in recovery/transition from natural disasters or personal crises by providing vouchers for use at participating thrift stores

What Can Be Purchased:

• Quality clothing
• Furniture
• Home supplies
• Building materials

Eligible Crisis Types:

• Natural disasters (fire, flood, pests)
• Personal crises:
  • Eviction
  • Loss of employment
  • Domestic violence
  • Transition from homelessness
  • Re-entry (post-incarceration or transitioning from rehabilitation)

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a Wayne County resident
• Currently experiencing a crisis (natural or personal) or in recovery/transition
• Must provide photo identification
• Must provide transition documents
• Must provide proof of income and transition

Voucher Amounts:

• Single person: $150
• Household/family of 2-4: $325
• Household/family of 5+: $475

Limitations:

• Assistance limited to one household once per year
• Vouchers expire 14 days from issue date
• Amounts subject to change
• Funding available as funds allow

Referral Process:

• Can be referred by United Way of Wayne County Community Partner or other Verified Partner (e.g., UNC Healthcare, Wayne County Public Schools)
• Referrals submitted through NCCARES360 or direct contact with UWWC
• If referring agency involved in client's transition, referral letter required

Funding Source: Various grants and potentially campaign fund designations/allocations

Application Process

1. Request Assistance
   • Fill out online form to request assistance
   • Contact United Way of Wayne County directly if needed
   • Dial 2-1-1 for alternative resources
2. Intake and Eligibility Review
   • UWWC will complete intake process
   • Review submitted documentation
   • Determine eligibility based on guidelines
3. Approval Timeline
   • Up to 4 business days for Community Caseworker to review applications
   • Approved applicants contacted for in-person assessment
4. Voucher Issuance
   • UWWC issues vouchers to eligible recipients
   • Vouchers valid for 14 days from issue date
   • Use at participating thrift stores
