Reconnect Mathematics Project (RMP)

Geographic Scope: Michigan (only 6 community college teams selected statewide)

Purpose

To support innovative efforts to improve student learning and engagement in mathematics education at community colleges.

WSCC Project Details

Project Title: "Increasing Engagement in the HyFlex Modality"

Focus: Transforming the delivery of college Algebra through a HyFlex format that allows students to:

  • Attend class in person

  • Attend class online

  • Switch between modes as needed
    • Project Goals

      The WSCC team aims to make the HyFlex experience more:
    • Interactive
    • Personalized
    • Effective for students

    Moving away from lecture-heavy formats toward inquiry-based models emphasizing discovery and hands-on learning.

    • Stephanie Shilander - Adjunct Professor (student coaching, feedback, focus groups)

    Dissemination

    The team has committed to sharing findings at upcoming national conferences in 2026 or 2027.
