Read Across America Grant

Funder: Kentucky Education Association (KEA)

Geographic Scope: Kentucky

Award Amount: Up to $500 per grant

Focus Areas:

  • Promoting literacy and reading motivation

  • Supporting Read Across America events

  • Community engagement in literacy promotion

    • Primary Purpose: Promote literacy in the community through Read Across America events (traditionally March 2, but can occur any date)

    Eligibility:

  • KEA districts or KEA locals

  • Events must be sponsored by a KEA district or local

  • Each KEA district or local may receive only one grant per year

  • Active, Retired, and Aspiring Educator members are encouraged to participate

    • Evaluation Criteria:

  • Extent to which the activity promotes literacy

  • Degree to which the activity encourages participation by multiple categories of KEA membership (Active, Retired, and Aspiring Educators)

  • Number of children and students expected to participate

  • Expected level of publicity and community outreach

  • Extent to which the event helps develop strong KEA locals

  • Other relevant criteria established by the KEA MOVE Committee

    • Important Notes:

  • Grant checks are written to the sponsoring KEA district or local, not to individual applicants

  • Applications must be submitted electronically

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered

  • A required letter from the sponsoring local or district president must be included

  • Funding decisions made by KEA's MOVE (Membership, Organizing, Visibility & Engagement) Committee by October 15
