Overview: Access grant program supporting community partners in improving access to lung cancer care and screening for uninsured or underinsured individuals across North Carolina.

Award Amount: $5,000 - $10,000 per grant

Geographic Scope: North Carolina

Focus Areas:

  • Lung cancer screening

  • Treatment access

  • Clinical research participation

  • Comprehensive biomarker testing

  • Precision medicine

  • Radon mitigation (for lung cancer prevention)

  • Fall prevention in lung cancer patients

  • Basic needs support (food security, transportation) for screening/treatment patients
  • Eligible Programs Support:

  • Screening programs for high-risk, uninsured/underinsured individuals

  • Education about lung cancer risks and screening

  • Immediate assistance for patients confirming diagnosis or with positive screens

  • Community-based health initiatives targeting disparities

  • Fall prevention and physical rehabilitation for lung cancer survivors

  • Community organizations and institutions in North Carolina

  • 2020: Rebuilding Together of the Triangle ($10,000) - Radon mitigation systems; Elon University ($9,984) - Fall prevention in lung cancer patients

  • 2019: Cone Health Cancer Center ($10,000) - Lung cancer screening for uninsured

  • 2018: Atrium Health, Levine Cancer Institute ($10,000) - Screening education

  • 2016: Cancer Services ($5,000) - Medication access; Community Health Coalition - Screening in African Americans; Vidant Medical Center ($10,000) - Lung cancer screening
  • Background: Since 2008, LCI has funded more than $3 million in lung cancer research and access programs.
