Purpose: Designed to move hypothesis-driven research into the clinic. These grants are intended to fund developmental therapeutic studies in the late stage of preclinical testing.

Program Status: Began in 2023 and is in its second year of funding

Focus Areas: All types of childhood cancer research, particularly translational research moving from preclinical to clinical stages

Geographic Scope: United States

Funder Background:

• Sammy's Superheroes Foundation is a nonprofit based in Columbus, Nebraska
• Mission: Raise awareness and fund life-saving research for all types of childhood cancer
• Has raised over $2 million for childhood cancer research
• Addresses the gap in federal funding (only 4% of National Cancer Institute budget goes to pediatric cancer)

Recent Awards:

• "Circumventing Pediatric Solid Tumor Microenvironment Resistance by Combinatorial CAR NK and Immunomodulating Therapy" - Dr. Kristopher Bosse, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, $250,000 over two years
