Purpose: Help more kids survive cancer and push for a cure by funding life-saving research for all types of childhood cancer.

Focus Areas:

• All types of childhood cancer (does not focus on one specific type)
• Ground-breaking, innovative research
• Research leading to modern treatments and cures
• Rare and aggressive cancers that receive limited attention

Geographic Scope: United States

Eligibility:

• Experienced researchers and institutions conducting pediatric cancer research
• University medical centers, children's hospitals, and research institutions

Funder Background:

• Sammy's Superheroes Foundation is a nonprofit based in Columbus, Nebraska
• Mission: Raise awareness and fund life-saving research for all types of childhood cancer
• Has raised over $2 million for childhood cancer research
• Addresses the gap in federal funding (only 4% of National Cancer Institute budget goes to pediatric cancer)
• Founded by Sammy Nahorny, who was diagnosed with cancer at age 4; his family and community raised over $1 million through grassroots efforts
