Cancer Research Grant Program Overview

Focus Areas: Innovative and translational cancer research focused on cancers affecting women, including ovarian, uterine, breast, endometrial, and cervical cancer. Translational research is defined as research that provides a scientific link between laboratory research and clinical application, with the goal of improving diagnosis, prognosis, prevention, or treatment of cancer.

Geographic Scope: United States (invitations extended to NCI-designated cancer centers and accredited medical schools)

Award Details:

• Amount: Up to $100,000 (combined direct and indirect costs)
• Duration: Two-year funding period
• Annual Awards: Foundation anticipates funding between 10-15 grants annually

Eligibility Requirements:

• Only NCI-designated cancer institutes and accredited medical schools are eligible
• Institutions must receive an invitation to apply
• Only one application accepted per institution
• Institutions must receive approval from the Research Review Committee Chair and Foundation Board of Directors

Application Timeline:

• November 1: Applications open
• February 1: Applications close
• August: Applicants notified of application status
• September/October: Awards announced and funds distributed in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Review Process:

• Grant proposals reviewed by Scientific Research Review Committee comprised of notable members of the American medical and scientific community
• Invitation-only program requiring committee review and board approval before application

Application Process

Invitation-Only Program:

1. Inquiring institutes must contact the Research Review Committee Chair to request consideration
2. Committee Chair and Foundation Board review institute suitability
3. Institutions must receive approval to proceed with application
4. Eligible institutions receive formal invitation to apply
