Overview

Ramps Program

Overview: dis Ability Connections works in collaboration with the Jackson Rotary Clubs to build residential ramps for children and adults with disabilities living in Jackson County.

Geographic Scope: Jackson County, Michigan

Program Details:

  • Applications received annually beginning in January

  • Approximately 6 to 8 ramps built from May through October

  • All ramps built to ADA specifications

  • dis Ability Connections secures funding for materials

  • Rotary clubs provide volunteers to design and build ramps

  • Approved applicants required to pay 25% co-pay on ramp materials upon completion
    • Eligibility Requirements

    • User must have a physical disability requiring a ramp to enter and exit residence
    • User must have doctor's prescription or medical statement of disability (prescription must read "ramp" with written diagnosis)
    • Residence must be located in Jackson County
    • Household income must meet low-income requirements (185% of poverty level as established by federal government)
    • User or family member must own the residence, have a long-term lease (minimum 5 years), or have history of long-term occupancy
    • If property not owned by user/family member, prior written approval required from property owner/landlord

    1. Timing: Applications received annually beginning in January each year
    2. Download Application: Download the 2026 Application form from the website
    3. Required Materials:
    - Completed dis Ability Connections Ramp Application
    - Doctor's prescription or medical statement of disability (prescription must specifically read "ramp" with written diagnosis for the need)
    - Proof of total monthly household income
    - If applicable: Written approval from property owner/landlord stating a ramp may be built on premises

    4. Submission: All documentation must be submitted together with the application
    5. Review Period: Applications reviewed; approximately 6-8 ramps built from May through October
