Summary

The George A. Ramlose Foundation, established in 1956, focuses on supporting smaller qualified organizations with specific projects or equipment needs. Grants typically range from $2,000 to $6,000, prioritizing those making identifiable positive impacts. Preference is given to organizations with valid 501c3 status, particularly those in Georgia and New England. The foundation avoids funding large entities or general operational costs, ensuring that contributions lead to sustainable, meaningful change in the community.

Overview

George A. Ramlose Foundation The George A. Ramlose Foundation, Inc. was founded by the late George A. Ramlose of Hingham, MA in 1956. Mr. Ramlose was in the food handling business and was instrumental in developing and selling conveyor belt systems for super market checkouts. He founded this foundation as a way of giving back to the community and enriching lives. In the beginning years of the foundation Mr. Ramlose and various business associates served on the board. After his death his daughter, Dorothy Fisher, now deceased, and her husband were active on the board. Two long-time board members were Ernest F. Boyce of Georgia and A. Leavitt Taylor of Massachusetts. Their respective sons Peter F. Boyce and David L. Taylor and their wives are continuing the work started by George A. Ramlose and sustained by their fathers. What We Fund We generally fund smaller qualified organizations where grants will be used for specific equipment, special projects, or focused initiatives. We prefer grants that make a specific and identifiable impact, especially positive impacts on people. Small organizations receive preference over larger organizations. Newer organizations that are approaching a breakthrough moment of impact may receive preference. Most grants are in the $2,000 - $6,000 range.

Eligibility

You can learn more about this opportunity by visiting the funder's website. Your organization must have a valid 501c3 designation to receive a grant.

Ineligibility

We seldom fund salaries or general operating support and rarely do we fund huge organizations. Since we do not provide a continuing source of funding, we do not usually make repetitive or multi-year grants to the same organization. We do not make grants to individualsRamlose prefers to fund requests for special projects or equipment rather than general operational requests as this sort of support is not sustainable. For example, it is extremely rare for the foundation to fund tuition, promotional materials, staff training, salaries, consulting fees or ongoing overhead. Requests for operational funds or multi-year support are rarely funded. Applications that don't include a specific project budget detailing how the requested funds would be used are rarely funded. Applications that are incomplete, unclear or do not follow instructions for page limits, required materials, summarized budgets etc. are rarely funded.Organizations that are very large and make it unclear how a modest Ramlose Grant would make much of an impact are rarely funded.Requests for materials or a project that seem like more of a “want” than a “need.” For example, the Ramlose Foundation rarely funds database upgrades, website development, the creation of promotional materials or staff trainings.
