Public Voices Fellowship on Racial Justice in Early Childhood

Overview: Designed to bring new and diverse voices into racial justice in early childhood conversations.

Partnership: In partnership with The OpEd Project

Program Launch: June 2019

Purpose: Increases thought leadership among women and people of color so that their voices are included in important conversations about racial justice in early childhood and find just and equitable solutions.

Duration: One year (year-long fellowship)

Cohort Size: Twenty (20) thought leaders per cohort

    The Work

    The Public Voices Fellowship is part of a prestigious national initiative launched by The OpEd Project to change who writes history. The year-long fellowship:
  • Convenes four times with twenty thought leaders on racial justice in early childhood
  • Explores how to build consensus
  • Examines when and why minds change
  • Discusses how ideas spread and can shape the future

    Eligibility/Target Audience

  • Women
  • People of color
  • Thought leaders focused on racial justice in early childhood

    Results/Outcomes

    Each fellow receives:
  • One-on-one coaching by leading journalists and editors
  • Minimum of two opinion ("op-ed") articles published during the fellowship
  • Two seminars focused on the intersection of racial justice in early childhood
  • Additional resources to develop leadership skills and knowledge
  • Support in shaping ideas about urgent contemporary conversations
