Summary

The Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada (AWFC) offers Public Lecture Grants to universities across Canada for lectures focused on animal welfare. This initiative encourages diverse faculties to engage in public discourse on animal welfare issues. Eligible expenses include speaker honoraria, travel costs, audio/visual equipment rental, and venue rental. The program aims to foster awareness and education in animal welfare, honoring past commitments to animal advocacy through impactful public lectures.

Overview

Universities across Canada may submit proposals to the AWFC for any lectures related to animal welfare that are promoted to the general public, as well as to the student body. Historically, the AWFC has funded campus lectures hosted by UBC’s Animal Welfare Program and the University of Guelph’s veterinary school. However, the application process is open to any Canadian university and faculty that may have an interest in animal welfare issues (e.g. Faculties of Law, Medicine, Environmental Science, Centres for Applied Ethics, Journalism, etc.). The Lectures series at UBC and Guelph were established to commemorate two individuals who were deeply concerned with the welfare of animals.
