Travel and Research Awards Giving back to our members is one way ACSM invests in the future of sports medicine and exercise science. Students and professionals who meet eligibility criteria are welcome to apply for any of our prestigious research and travel awards. Priscilla Clarkson Undergraduate Travel Award Established in memory or Priscilla M. Clarkson, Ph.D., FACSM, the 44th president of ACSM, the award assists undergraduate students with travel expenses to present their research at the ACSM Annual Meeting. Scientific quality will be the primary criterion for selection. Following quality, priority will be given to human-based research on topics important to Dr. Clarkson, including exercise-induced muscle damage, soreness, and adaptation; sport nutrition, dietary supplements, and performance enhancing drugs; dance; and exercise and cancer. Devoted to enhancing undergraduate education at a large public university, Dr. Clarkson, former Dean of the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, prioritized positive mentoring throughout her career. Founder of the Muscle Biology and Imaging Lab, she contributed her expertise to NASA and the NCAA. Dr. Clarkson's research examined how muscles work when functioning properly, and what happens to muscle tissue following disuse or aging resulting from injury or atrophy. Winners are encouraged to attend the ACSM Honors at the ACSM Annual Meeting.

Eligibility

Open to undergraduate students enrolled in full-time programs.Applicants must be the first author and presenter of an abstract accepted at the ACSM Annual Meeting. You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. Applicants must be an ACSM national member in good standing before applying. ACSM chapter membership alone does not fulfill this requirement.

Ineligibility

Previous recipients of the Priscilla Clarkson Undergraduate Travel Award are not eligible to apply.
