Summary

The Pokagon Fund offers Municipal Grants to support projects initiated by local government entities within specific jurisdictions. Eligible applicants can submit a letter of inquiry to outline their project and funding needs. Once approved, they may proceed with a full application. The Fund's Board of Directors reviews applications and decides on funding based on alignment with the Fund’s objectives. It’s important for municipalities to confirm available funding amounts as they can change frequently.

Overview

NOTE:  In recognition of circumstances where local units of government must consider the administrative burden of applying for a grant, the Fund encourages any municipality to submit a letter of inquiry that explains the concept of the project and how much funding it is requesting from the Fund. The letter of inquiry will provide an opportunity for the Board of Directors to make a preliminary determination as to whether and to what extent the proposed municipal project may be funded. After a letter of inquiry is approved by the Board, the applicant will be invited to submit a full application. Municipal GrantsThe Pokagon Fund’s Municipal grants are awarded for projects that are requested by the governing board of any of the following jurisdictions and then approved by the Fund’s Board of Directors: the City of New Buffalo; the Townships of New Buffalo, Three Oaks or Chikaming; the Villages of Three Oaks, Grand Beach or Michiana; River Valley School District; or New Buffalo Area Schools.Application for Municipal grants are reviewed as they are submitted. TPF’s Board of Directors will usually make a decision on each application at its regular meeting in the month following when an Initial Questionnaire (if a Letter of Inquiry is necessary) or full application is submitted but it reserves the right to postpone a decision. A unit of government that is not on the list above may not request a Municipal grant from the Fund but may want to consider an application for Discretionary funding. Those municipalities considering submitting a Municipal grant application should contact The Pokagon Fund to determine the amount of funding that is available for it to request because these amounts change frequently. Projects must align with one or more of TPF’s purposes, which are outlined in the “Discretionary and Municipal Grantmaking Guidelines.
