Pirkle Jones Fund Artist Award

Established: 2025 (new format)

Purpose: Build community spirit through the arts by funding projects that use arts to build, inspire, and unite community in key neighborhoods.

Award Amount: $100,000 per award (4 awards available)

Geographic Scope: Four key neighborhoods in Marin County:

  • Marin City

  • Canal District of San Rafael

  • Novato

  • West Marin
  • Focus Areas:

  • Music

  • Film

  • Murals

  • Photography

  • Preservation of historical and cultural knowledge

  • Arts-based community building projects
  • What They Fund:

  • Projects that use arts to build, inspire, and unite community

  • One award per geographic area

  • Projects that bring arts to communities and share with participants and partners
  • Current Status (2026):
    As of March 24, 2026, MCF is conducting community engagement to determine what type of art communities want to see next in their neighborhoods. MCF will be engaging in multiple forms of inquiry with community members throughout 2026.

    Timeline:

  • 2025: First year with 4 awards of $100,000 each

  • 2026: Community inquiry phase (no applications accepted)

  • Mid-2027: MCF will announce inquiry results and open artist award applications

    Application Process

    2026 Status: No applications are being accepted in 2026. MCF is conducting community inquiry phase.

    Expected Application Timeline (2027):
    1. Mid-2027: MCF will announce results of community inquiries
    2. Artist award applications will open following announcement
    3. Applications will seek projects reflecting community-chosen art types
    4. Projects must align with specific art preferences of each neighborhood (Marin City, Canal District, Novato, West Marin)
