PIDC-D'Alessio Scholarship for Urban Development

Funder: PIDC Community Capital

Background: Established in 2018 as part of PIDC's 60th Anniversary in recognition of Walt D'Alessio's 46+ years of service as Chief Executive and Chairman of PIDC. The scholarship honors his dedication, integrity, and commitment to supporting growth throughout Philadelphia.

Purpose: Supports graduate students pursuing careers in urban development and finance.

    Award Information

  • Amount: Up to $2,500 per scholarship
  • Number of Awards: Up to 2 scholarships per year
  • Additional Benefit: Scholarship recipients will also be offered a paid PIDC fall internship

    Geographic Scope

  • Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Eligible Schools: Philadelphia colleges/universities OR Philadelphia residents studying outside the Philadelphia area

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet ALL of the following: 1. Pursuing a graduate degree 2. Student at a Philadelphia college or university; OR a Philadelphia resident at a college or university studying outside the Philadelphia area 3. Pursuing one of the following areas of study: - Urban Studies - Economics - Law - Public Administration - Real Estate - Regional and/or City Planning - Urban Planning and Design

Application Process

1. Create/Login to ISTS System
- Create a new ISTS login if you're new to the platform
- Visit the application portal

2. Submit Application
- Click the "Add New Application" button
- Enter the program key: PIDC

3. Required Application Components

Prepare the following documents:

  • Resume

  • List of clubs & extracurricular activities

  • Community service & volunteering experience

  • Honors & awards

  • Work & internship experience (if any)

  • Most recent undergraduate college/university transcript

  • Most recent graduate college/university transcript

  • Two short essays (no more than 250 words each)
  • Essay Questions

    1. What do you do to give back to your community and why is it important to you? 2. How will this scholarship and internship opportunity advance your career and/or personal life?

      Additional Notes

    • Official transcripts are NOT required; unofficial transcripts acceptable
    • Your full name must be visible on all documentation provided
    • Transcript must be a full transcript showing all grades (not just a grade report)
    • Application deadline: March 31, 2027
