Overview

NOTE: If your mission is aligned with one PIF’s focus areas described below and you have not received an invitation to submit a proposal, you are encouraged to submit a Letter of Interest (LOI). If your LOI is approved, you will receive a notification in early January from the PIF inviting you to submit a full proposal. Philanthropic Impact Fund Vanguard Charitable understands that across the country, nonprofits are being asked to do more with less—delivering critical services, strengthening civic life, and responding to urgent and intersecting social, political, and environmental challenges. Yet, while expectations for a nonprofit’s performance have grown, the foundational infrastructure needed to support this work—leadership development, technology, governance, legal tools, narrative capacity, and fundraising systems—remains chronically underfunded and too often overlooked. Additionally, donors lack the educational resources and trusted pathways to efficiently and effectively deploy their philanthropic capital. Vanguard Charitable believes that strengthening the nonprofit and philanthropic infrastructure is a strategic investment in resilience, equity, and sustainability of the sector. The PIF is interested in supporting work which has a broad reach and can benefit multiple nonprofits and donors, such as national nonprofits with multiple chapters/partners, nonprofit capacity building organizations, and national philanthropy serving organizations. In 2025, PIF will focus its grantmaking on three areas of needs and gaps identified from the field.
