About Us Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (URF) fosters a culture of undergraduate research and creative endeavor—broadly defined—at Northeastern University. Research and creative endeavors are key components of Northeastern’s experiential learning model. Experiences can range from laboratory bench work to the analysis of big data to archival research to collaborative theatre productions. This work can take place in a variety of contexts and formats, including the following: Courses, which generally fulfill major elective requirements Labs or centers Research or creative-based co-ops or internships Community-based research or creative endeavor Research or creative-based activity as the option for work-study work Research or creative endeavor as a service activity Junior/senior honors projects PEAK Fellowship: The Summit This fellowship is one of the Project-Based Exploration for the Advancement of Knowledge (PEAK) Fellowships. This fellowship is for those who are heading for the project pinnacle. You have the skills and sophistication to work independently, while still in conversation with a mentor, and you can develop your own research questions and creative problems, as well as pathways to working through them. Projects funded by this Fellowship are likely to emerge from a significant previous engagement with the mentor and the methods and questions in the field. This might include independent engagement, prior research or creative endeavors, or experiences gained through previous employment or co-op. Award Benefits The PEAK Summit Fellowship offers up to $2000 as a stipend. This money can be divided with your PI to cover the costs of project materials if necessary. PEAK Fellowship funds cannot be applied to tuition. Fellowship funds in the form of a stipend are deposited into the awardee’s student account. Fellowship funds are distributed to the university account of the project’s faculty mentor if used for project materials. Summit Fellowship Awardees will have the opportunity to demonstrate their high-level skills, creativity, and initiative while undertaking research and creative projects and deepening their relationships with their project’s faculty mentor. Summit Fellowship Awardees join the PEAK fellows cohort and receive all of its benefits, including the opportunity to present works-in-progress to peers, engaging in guided reflection and goal-setting, and advising by the staff of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships. The fellowship term is 10-weeks of the semester.

Eligibility

This fellowship is for full-time, currently enrolled Northeastern undergraduates who possess significant prior engagement with the frameworks, methods, and techniques of research or creative endeavor in their field, whether through independent projects, employment, or co-op. Based on this prior engagement, applicants should be ready and able to demonstrate a notable degree of independence in the development and execution of projects, while remaining in close conversation with a faculty mentor. The Summit Fellowship would be an especially good fit for students in their third year of study and above who have a history of progressively deepened engagement with research or creative work in their field.

Ineligibility

PEAK Fellowships are not able to support internal or external Co-op projects.PEAK Fellowship funds cannot be applied to tuition.
