PCORI Call for Proposals for HSII Implementation Projects Grant

Last Updated: March 30, 2026

Summary

The PCORI Call for Proposals for HSII Implementation Projects invites innovative approaches to address barriers in healthcare settings. These projects should enhance practice change through active, multi-component strategies and include rigorous evaluations to measure implementation effectiveness. While developing tools to support these strategies is permitted, it should not be the main focus. Successful proposals will demonstrate their potential impact on healthcare outcomes and patient experiences.

Overview

HSII Implementation Projects should employ active, multicomponent implementation approaches that reflect comprehensive consideration of the barriers and facilitators in the proposed implementation settings and that will drive practice change at the appropriate level (e.g., individual, clinical setting, organization, community) consistent with the relevant literature. As a part of proposed implementation strategies, HSII Implementation Projects may include the development of tools and materials to support the proposed strategies; however, such development of the tools or materials may not be a primary focus of HSII Implementation Projects. Importantly, HSII Implementation Projects will include rigorous evaluation plans that document both the execution of implementation activities (e.g., the number of clinicians who completed training, whether clinic staff delivered the intervention with fidelity, the number and proportion of eligible patients who received the intervention) and the impact of the implementation efforts on health care and health outcomes. The intent of this Call for Proposals (CFP) for Health Systems Implementation Initiative (HSII) Implementation Projects is to provide an opportunity for HSII Participants to propose projects that promote the uptake of specific evidence from PCORI-funded patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research within their healthcare delivery settings. Each HSII Participant may propose one project in response to this CFP.
