Overview:
A new fellowship fund established in honor of the late Patty Zimmermann (1956-2023), a pioneering scholar, filmmaker, and advocate for documentary cinema and media activism. Patty worked closely with The Flaherty for over fifteen years, organizing the Flaherty Black and Third World Filmmakers Mini-Seminar (1975), serving as Board President (1986-1989), and as Programmer of the 35th Flaherty Film Seminar (1989).

Purpose:
To support professional development for documentary filmmakers, scholars, and media professionals. Proceeds from fundraising are divided equally between The Flaherty Seminar and the Visible Evidence Conference.

Legacy:
Patty Zimmermann was instrumental in centering Black filmmakers, Third World cinema, and social justice documentary within The Flaherty's programming and mission.

Current Status:
As of April 2024, 54 donors have contributed. The fund is actively fundraising.
