P.E.O. STAR Scholarship

Purpose: Non-renewable $2,500 scholarship for graduating women in their final year of high school. Must be used in academic year following graduation or it will be forfeited.

Geographic Scope: United States and Canada

Eligibility:

  • Recommended by a local P.E.O. chapter

  • Citizen or legal permanent resident of U.S. or Canada

  • Minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale

  • Exhibits excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success

  • Plans to attend accredited postsecondary education institution in U.S. or Canada full-time or part-time in fall following high school graduation

  • Evaluated on nondiscriminatory basis (race, age, national origin, religious affiliation, disability, P.E.O. connection not considered)

    • Award: Non-renewable $2,500 scholarship; must be used in academic year following high school graduation or forfeited

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Steps:
    1. Members of local P.E.O. chapter interview student
    2. Local chapter votes to recommend student
    3. After chapter recommendation, P.E.O. Executive Office emails applicant with instructions for logging into online account
    4. Applicant completes and submits application within 30 days of receiving email
    5. Awards announced by April 30 annually
    6. Notification sent to all applicants and recommending chapters

    Required Materials:

  • Information about student and extracurricular/community service activities

  • 700-word essay

  • Two letters of recommendation

  • Unofficial high school transcript (through 11th grade/junior year)

    • Timeline:

  • Chapter interview and recommendation process (timing varies)

  • Applicant has 30 days from email notification to complete application

  • Awards announced by April 30

  • Award must be used in academic year following high school graduation
