Awards offered to early career investigators (students, postdocs, and fellows) who participate in the Back to Basics: Pioneers in Cardiovascular Science Speaker Series Lightning Round presentation competitions. Recipients are selected by meeting attendees voting on exceptional presentation quality.

• Early career investigators only:
  • Students (MD/PhD or PhD)
  • Postdoctoral fellows
  • Postdoctoral researchers
  • Fellows
• Research relevant to single ventricle science or adjacent cardiovascular development

Program Format

• Back to Basics: Pioneers in Cardiovascular Science Speaker Series - Multi-part virtual speaker series with Lightning Round competitions
• Four-week series featuring outstanding investigators followed by presentation competition
• Typical structure: Fall, Winter, and Spring series cycles
• Series highlights fundamental scientific discoveries laying foundation for functional cures

• 2021-2022 Academic Year: Six early career investigators selected as Outstanding Research Presentation awardees
  • Winners from Fall, Winter, and Spring Lightning Round competitions
  • Recipients presented at Single Ventricle Investigator Meeting (October 6-9, 2022)

Application Process

1. Submit Abstract - Call for abstracts issued for each Lightning Round competition
2. Lightning Round Presentation - Selected abstract presenters give 5-minute presentations at Lightning Round competition session
3. Voting and Selection - Meeting attendees vote to select two Outstanding Research Presentation Award recipients per session

Required Materials

• Abstract highlighting research findings
• Proposal to present research in Lightning Round format
• Confirmation of early career investigator status (student, postdoc, or fellow)
• Research relevant to single ventricle or cardiovascular development

Presentation Requirements

• Lightning Round format (approximately 5-minute presentation)
