A registered apprenticeship program providing earn-and-learn opportunities for individuals seeking careers as heavy equipment operators. The program combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction.

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Age: Must be at least 17 years old at time of application
  • Residency: Must be a Michigan resident
  • Driver's License: Must have a valid Michigan Driver's License
  • Education: Must provide one of the following:
  • - Official high school transcript showing graduation date - GED certificate - High school diploma
  • WorkKeys Testing: Must have acceptable scores on three WorkKeys tests:
  • - Applied Mathematics: Level 3 (Heavy Equipment Operator/Technician) or Level 4 (Stationary) with 2-digit scale score - Locating Information/Graphic Literacy: Level 4 with 2-digit scale score - Reading for Information/Workplace Documents: Level 4 with 2-digit scale score
  • Citizenship: Must be U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Physical Ability: Must be physically able to perform the work of the trade
  • Drug Testing: Must pass a drug test if accepted for training
  • Transportation: Must have a reliable vehicle and be willing to travel to job assignments throughout Michigan

1. Schedule and take WorkKeys tests at approved Michigan testing locations (if not already completed)
2. Gather all required documentation listed above

4. Submit application fee ($35)
5. Complete online application with all required information
6. Submit all supporting documentation during application period
7. Incomplete applications will be rejected

    Important Notes

  • Both scale score and level score required for each WorkKeys test
  • Failure to provide both scores results in incomplete application
