OneMPLS Fund Grants

Geographic Scope: Greater Minneapolis area

Focus Areas: Responsive to emerging community needs. Previous grant rounds have addressed:

• Affordable housing
• Pandemic relief (COVID-19)
• Rebuilding support for small businesses recovering from COVID-19 and destruction following the murder of George Floyd
• Fair housing
• Capacity building for nonprofits
• Economic mobility and capacity building
• Protecting public media
• Basic needs during ICE surge

Approach:

• Every year, the Foundation targets 1-3 pressing issues in greater Minneapolis
• Direct invitations to apply (not competitive RFP processes)
• Partnerships with trusted intermediaries with strong community relationships
• Insights from interviews, listening sessions, and research to identify urgent needs

Grant Values: Since 2019, has made over $9 million in grants to 170+ nonprofits. Recent distributions include $2 million (early 2026), $945,000 (ICE surge relief), and $830,000 (basic needs).

Eligible Applicants:

• 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations
• Groups with a fiscal sponsor
• Does NOT fund individuals or for-profit organizations

How to Apply

1. Monitor the Minneapolis Foundation website for announcement of each grant round
2. Organizations are typically invited directly to apply rather than through open RFP
3. Submit application through Foundation's processes (details vary by round)
4. Expect communication from Foundation staff
