Overview
Northwest Sarcoma Foundation Research Grants
Purpose: Support researchers studying Sarcoma
Focus Areas:
Geographic Scope
Preference given to researchers based in: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington- Research must be conducted at academic, medical, or research institutions
- Research projects must have direct applicability and relevance to sarcoma
- May focus on all sarcoma subtypes or specific to a single histology
- Any discipline of basic, clinical, translational, or epidemiological research
- Applicants need not be American citizens
- During each grant cycle, an applicant can only apply once
- Budgetary overlap with other funded projects is not allowed
Eligibility
- Budget: Up to $10,000 for one year (2027 cycle)
- Funds may be used for: salary, technical assistance, supplies, capital equipment, or scientific travel
- NWSF does not provide funds for indirect costs
- Will consider applications for amounts below $10,000, and may fund more than one project
Funding Details
- Applications reviewed by NWSF Research Committee
- Committee makes funding recommendations to Board of Directors
- Final decisions made by Board
- All rankings and evaluations are confidential
- Applicants notified of decisions by December 15th
- Awards activate January 1, 2027
- Payments made to host institution
Award Process
- Participation in at least one NWSF event strongly encouraged
- One brief progress report due July 1, 2026
- Brief final report presentation during following year's January Board Meeting
- Must acknowledge "Northwest Sarcoma Foundation" in all publications and news releases about the research

Application Process
Timeline:
Required Application Components
1. Lay Abstract (250 words or less)
- Must be SIMPLE and BASIC
- Public information - do not include proprietary or confidential information
2. Project Description (no more than 2 pages)
- Formatting: 1" margins, Times New Roman or Arial 11pt font, exclusive of references
- Must include:
- Succinct description of the project
- How the project aligns with the Foundation's mission
- Project goals (ideally SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound)
- How NWSF support will advance your research, including future directions
3. Budget & Budget Justification
- No more than 1 page
4. Principal Investigator's CV or NIH Biosketch
- Combine all four components into a single PDF document

- Only applications received by the deadline will be accepted
- Applicants will receive confirmation of receipt within 48 hours
