Waiwai Grant Program The purpose of the County of Hawai‘i Nonprofit Grants-in-Aid (Waiwai Grants) is to support qualified nonprofit organizations to carry out programs or services that yield direct benefits to the public and accomplish public purposes within the County of Hawai‘i. This grant is coordinated by the Hawai‘i County Council in partnership with the Department of Finance.

To be eligible for Waiwai Grant funding, an organization must: Be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit in good standing in Hawaiʻi. Have a governing board with a conflict-of-interest policy and members serving without compensation. Maintain bylaws and policies covering management, audits, nepotism, and conflicts of interest. Be licensed and accredited under all applicable laws. Disclose any board members or administrators with relationships to County officialsEach organization may submit up to two (2) applications for distinct programs.Applications submitted via a fiscal sponsor do not count toward the sponsor’s two-application limit.

Ineligibility

Programs or expenses that do not provide direct public benefits or serve a public purpose within the County are ineligible for funding. Examples include capital improvements on private property, sub-grants, scholarships, stipends, purchases for specific individuals, personal entertainment, perquisites, patents, publications, intellectual property, and travel for training or conferences.
