The Nicolas Appert Award has been awarded annually since 1942 by the Chicago Section of the Institute of Food Technologists. It is given for lifetime and consistent achievement in food technology and is named after Nicolas Appert, the French inventor of airtight food preservation. This is considered one of the highest honors in food technology.
