NEON District Public Art Program - Artist Micro-Grant

Geographic Scope: NEON District, Downtown Norfolk, Virginia

Focus Areas: Public art, murals, sculpture projects, street environment enhancement

Background: Since the birth of the NEON District in 2013, new murals and sculpture projects have multiplied through the City of Norfolk's Public Art Commission and grassroots community planning. The Downtown Norfolk Council created this Public Art Program, led by the NEON District Committee, to encourage more successful implementation of public art projects in NEON.

Purpose: The program aims to reduce the material and design costs to working artists and provide incentives to property owners and tenants.

Eligibility:

  • Artists with a design for a NEON District location

  • Must have secured permission from property owner
  • What They Fund:

  • Design fees

  • Materials for artistic projects

  • Professionally crafted artistic designs that enhance the street environment
  • Application Process:

  • Applications and a letter of agreement should be submitted to the NEON District Committee for review

  • NEON District Committee accepts applications on a rolling basis

    How to Apply

    Application Process
