NC Pork Student Intern Reimbursement Program

Funder: North Carolina Pork Council

Program Status: Active

Purpose: Encourages pork producers and pork production companies to introduce students to careers in pork industry; improves public relations; encourages producers to invest in industry's future employees.

What This Program Funds

  • Reimbursement of one-half (50%) of a student intern's salary
  • Maximum reimbursement: $2,500 per intern
  • Maximum per company: $5,000 (2 interns maximum)

Who Can Apply

Eligible Students:

  • High school juniors and seniors

  • Community college students

  • Four-year college/university students
  • Eligible Employers:

  • Pork producers

  • Pork production companies in North Carolina

  • Must be approved mentor
  • Work Areas

    Student internship work includes:

  • Working on production farms

  • Working on projects within NC pork industry

  • Work supervised by approved mentor

  • Mentor responsible for providing guidance and supervision
  • Reimbursement Process

    • Reimbursement made to pork producer (sponsor)
    • Paid at end of internship
    • Upon completion of internship and all forms submitted to NC Pork Council

    How to Apply

    How Producers Apply

    1. Producers must first fill out Producer Application to join internship reimbursement program
    2. Identify eligible student intern
    3. Upon internship completion, submit Reimbursement Form
    4. Submit all required forms to NC Pork Council
    5. Reimbursement processed after all materials received and internship verified as complete

    Required Documents

    • Producer Application Form
    • Reimbursement Form (submitted after internship completion)
    • Verification of internship completion
    • Documentation of intern salary/hours
    • All other required forms as specified by NC Pork Council

    Process Timeline

    1. Producer completes and submits Producer Application
    2. Producer hires eligible student intern
    3. Student completes internship
    4. Producer submits Reimbursement Form and all documentation
    5. NC Pork Council processes reimbursement
