Overview

National Army ROTC Scholarships

Overview

National Army ROTC Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors based on merit and grades (not financial need). Competition is highly competitive with over 30,000 students from across the country competing annually. Scholarships cover full tuition and mandatory fees. Scholarship awardees receive a book allowance of $1,200 per year and a monthly tax-free stipend. The scholarship process is centralized at Cadet Command.

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be between ages 17 and 26
  • Have a high school GPA of at least 2.50
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Score a minimum of 1000 on SAT (math/verbal) or 19 on ACT (excluding writing test scores)
  • Meet physical standards
  • Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (Army Reserve or Army National Guard)

    Service Obligation

  • Sign contract with Department of the Army (parents/guardians must also sign if applicant is under 18)
  • Attend 5-week Leadership Development Assessment Course between junior and senior years
  • Accept commission to serve on active duty or reserve duty upon completion of courses
  • Serve in the Army for 8 years total, which may be fulfilled by: 4 years active duty + 4 years Army Reserve/National Guard/IRR, OR 8 years Army Reserve or National Guard (including 4-6 months active duty for initial training)
  • Obligation term begins at commissioning
  • If scholarship cadet fails to comply with contract terms after sophomore year, must repay all financial aid received (monetary or enlisted service at Army's discretion)

  • Application process: April 15 of high school junior year through May 31 of senior year
  • Applications must be complete by January 1 of senior year
  • Interviews conducted at local Army ROTC programs prior to selection

2. Timeline:
- Application period: Approximately April 15 of high school junior year through May 31 of senior year
- Application deadline: January 1 of senior year (all applications must be complete by this date)

3. Interview: Complete interview at local Army ROTC program (Henderson State University ROTC office)

4. Selection: Centralized selection process at Cadet Command
