Overview

Children's Fund Scholarship

Focus: Scholarships for K-12 education (private school or tutoring) for dependents of fallen or disabled military service members and first responders

Geographic Scope: United States and U.S. Territories

    Eligibility

  • Children of fallen or disabled U.S. service members
  • Children of fallen or disabled first responders
  • Attend or plan to attend private school or tutoring service
  • School must be accredited or registered within state
  • Tutoring must be provided by established business with business address (not private individuals)

    Award Details

  • Amount: Up to $5,000 per academic year
  • Payment cap: Not to exceed $2,500 per term (minimum $100 per term)
  • Payment structure: Based on unmet need (tuition, fees, required textbooks, required uniform pieces)
  • Private School: One lump sum check (up to $5,000) processed in fall after invoice submitted
  • Tutoring: Two equal payments — Fall check (up to $2,500) and Spring check (up to $2,500) after December check-in
  • Funds mailed directly to institution — not to awardee

How to Apply

Application Process

1. Application Window: February 1 – March 31 (annually)
- If March 31 falls on a weekend, deadline extends to close of first business day following

2. Submission Requirements
- All applications submitted through online portal only at fohscholarships.communityforce.com
- Documentation NOT accepted via U.S. mail, fax, email, or phone
- Create one account per applicant
- One account can manage multiple students (separate application required for each child)

3. Required Documentation
- Proof of relation to service member or first responder
- School information (accreditation verification)
- For tutoring: business information and proof of established business with address
- School eligibility documents as requested

4. Multi-Step Process
- Complete and submit application through portal (Feb 1 – Mar 31)
- Award notifications sent mid-July
- Scholarship Acceptance/Check-in opens shortly after award notification
- Scholarship Acceptance/Check-in deadline: September 15
- Submit current-month itemized tuition statement (for private school) or tutoring invoice
- Private School: full award check processed in fall
- Tutoring: Fall check processed in fall; December check-in initiates Spring check

5. Important Notes
- Reapply annually if seeking funds
- If school changes after application, update in Scholarship Acceptance section (new school must be vetted before funds sent — delays payment)
- Check status tracked on applicant dashboard
- Checks issued by Tulsa Community Foundation, not Folds of Honor
- Allow 4-6 weeks for check delivery after submission (if documentation complete)

6. Payment Timeline
- Award offer notifications: mid-July
- Private School: One lump sum in fall
- Tutoring: Fall payment in fall; Spring payment after December check-in
- Mailed via USPS first-class mail
