NARI / Jim Harkey Memorial Scholarship Program

Overview: The Jim Harkey Memorial Fund honors the legacy of one of NARI Charlotte's early leaders and serves as a vital part of the organization's philanthropic mission. This scholarship program reflects Jim Harkey's dedication to supporting those in need.

Purpose: The NARI / Jim Harkey Memorial Scholarship Program provides scholarships to NARI members, their families, and employees for college, university, or trade school, helping to strengthen and grow the industry's workforce.

    Geographic Scope

  • Location: Charlotte, NC (NARI of Greater Charlotte)

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicant must be a member of NARI of Greater Charlotte or the child or employee of a member
  • Open to high school students or industry professionals pursuing education at:
  • - A technical trade school - A nationally accredited two- or four-year college or university - A local community or vocational school

    Academic Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma with a minimum weighted GPA of 2.6 (or equivalent) or a GED
  • High school seniors must have an overall weighted 2.6 GPA upon graduation (documentation required)
  • Currently enrolled students must maintain a minimum 2.6 GPA in post-secondary education

    Eligible Use of Funds

  • Scholarship funds may only be used for tuition and books

    Application Process

  • Applicants must formally apply when enrolled in a qualifying institution
  • Full-time students must reapply annually and remain enrolled full-time during the reapplication process
  • A NARI member may nominate an applicant (priority given to NARI members' employees or families)
  • Applicants must submit the completed application form and required materials one semester before requesting funding

  • Official transcript showing GPA
  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher, school administrator, or immediate supervisor
  • Personal essay (250–500 words) explaining why the applicant should be considered for the scholarship

    Award Distribution

  • Awards typically range from $1,000 to $2,500
  • Amounts are determined at the discretion of the committee and the NARI / Jim Harkey Memorial Fund Board of Directors
  • Funds are paid directly to the institution

    Additional Requirements for Recipients

  • Scholarship recipients must attend the award meeting on June 26 to receive their scholarship certificate
  • Submit grade reports to the chapter every semester to document academic progress

Application Process

1. Complete the online application with all required information
2. Gather required documentation:
