Nancy DiGrezio Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: Awarded annually to a high school senior who demonstrates leadership, peacemaking, tolerance, understanding of differences, and empowers peers to respond to acts of intolerance and discrimination.

Background: Established in 2007 in memory of former YWCA Board Member Nancy DiGrezio, a long-time local advocate for social justice. Nancy was passionate about affordable housing, peace, diversity, and tolerance, and served as Chair of the YWCA's Advocacy Committee.

Geographic Scope: Open to high school seniors who live or attend school within the YWCA Greater Newburyport's service area:

• Massachusetts: Newburyport, Newbury, West Newbury, Salisbury, Amesbury, Merrimac, Georgetown, Rowley, Ipswich
• New Hampshire: Seabrook, Hampton, Hampton Falls, Kensington

Eligibility Requirements:

• High school senior
• Lives or attends school in the YWCA service area
• Demonstrates leadership among peers
• Actions exemplify tolerance and understanding of differences
• Empowers other students to respond to acts of intolerance and discrimination

Award Presentation:

• Announced at the Annual Meeting of the YWCA Greater Newburyport
• Presented at the recipient's high school year-end senior awards assembly for peer, teacher, and family recognition

Application Process

Application Window: Applications accepted beginning on the national celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (typically mid-January)
