Overview
Murray Glauberman Memorial Scholarship
Overview: The Household & Commercial Products Association (HCPA) awards an annual monetary scholarship to a high school senior whose parent or grandparent is employed full-time by an HCPA member company. Established in 1988 to honor the late Murray Glauberman, the 1986 Chair of the Board of Directors. Since inception, HCPA has awarded a total of $288,000 to 36 deserving recipients.
Award Details:
Eligibility
- Parent/Grandparent Requirement: Child or grandchild of a full-time (at least 30 hours per week) employee of an HCPA member company in good standing at the time the award is granted
- Student Status: Graduating high school seniors and honorably discharged veterans who entered the military immediately following high school
- College Enrollment: Must be accepted by or anticipating freshman entry into an accredited U.S. college or university on a full-time basis during the Fall semester immediately following the date of the award
- Ineligibility: - Children/grandchildren of members of the HCPA Scholarship Awards Committee - Students currently attending college or enrolled in graduate/post-graduate courses
Award Criteria
- Academic Achievement & Leadership Qualities: Students scoring in the top percentiles on SAT/ACT are required for consideration
- Leadership Accomplishments: Outstanding leadership qualities and accomplishments as demonstrated by supporting documents
- Non-transferable: Awards are made on an individual basis and are non-transferable
Payment and Continuation
- Initial payment of $2,000 before Fall semester commencement
- Annual payments of $2,000 each year thereafter for four years, provided: - Recipient maintains a grade point average acceptable to the school for continuing matriculation - Official report of continuing matriculation submitted to HCPA Scholarship Awards Committee by July 1st each year - Failure to submit annual certification results in cancellation of award
- Leave of Absence: Recipients may postpone no more than one year's award for valid reasons; failure to resume studies results in automatic cancellation

How to Apply
Application Requirements
Submit digital PDFs of the following documents:
1. Student Application Form
- Required form for all applicants
2. Standardized Test Scores
- CollegeBoard SAT® Student Score Report OR The ACT® Student Report
- If both SAT® and ACT® scores are submitted, only the SAT® score will be considered
- Finalists will be required to furnish official transcripts of these scores
3. Letter of Recommendation
- From applicant's high school principal, guidance counselor, or teacher
- Should describe extracurricular accomplishments and/or leadership qualities in the community
- Must be printed on school letterhead and signed by the principal, guidance counselor, or teacher
- Alternative: If high school official is not available, a responsible community official may provide the recommendation letter on official letterhead and signed
4. Personal Letter from Applicant
- Addressed to the HCPA Scholarship Awards Committee
- Should outline school and citizenship accomplishments
- Should discuss objectives for the future
5. Additional Documentation for Military Veterans
- Honorably discharged veterans should attach a separate page describing:
- Military experience
- Duties performed
- Skills learned
- Awards received
- Veterans may use their commanding officer's letter as the required letter of recommendation if desired
