  • Forklifts and wheel loaders
  • Storage containers and shipping boxes
  • Compactors
  • Recycling collection containers
  • Variable frequency drives (VFDs)
  • Trailers for recyclables
  • Rotating pallet forks
  • Split-body trucks for recycling collection

    Ineligible Expenses

  • Land, buildings, construction
  • Fencing, landscaping
  • Studies, planning, administration
  • Travel, vehicles
  • Private enterprise applications

    Application Requirements

  • Applicant must have returned current year "Annual Facility Report" to NH Department of Environmental Services
  • Typically only one grant per municipality per fiscal year (November 1 - October 31)
  • Grant requests must be for current and anticipated projects
  • Project must be fully executed within 6 months of grant notification (one 3-month extension may be allowed)
  • Grant funds issued only upon satisfactory documentation and inspection
  • One-year follow-up report requested after award to measure impact

    Conditions

  • Equipment purchased must be used exclusively for recycling purposes
  • Applicant must maintain sole ownership for 5 years
  • If ownership changes within 5 years, grantee must return grant funds to NH the Beautiful
  • Communities that discontinue recycling programs must either repay NH the Beautiful or transfer equipment to another community for recycling use

Application Submission Timeline (2026 Fiscal Year: 11/1/2025 - 10/31/2026):
1. Submit by 1/8/2026 (Board meets on 1/22/2026)
2. Submit by 4/23/2026 (Board meets on 5/7/2026)
3. Submit by 7/23/2026 (Board meets on 8/6/2026)
4. Submit by 9/24/2026 (Board meets on 10/8/2026)

Note: Applications received after 9/24/2026 will be considered for the 2027 fiscal year.

General Requirements:
1. Municipalities and solid waste districts are eligible
2. Only capital equipment for recycling will be considered
3. Applicant must have a minimum of 50% of purchase price available
4. Grants from other sources may not be considered as part of the minimum
5. Grants up to 20% may be awarded subject to funds available and Board evaluation
6. Capped at $5,000 per grant
7. Applicant MUST have returned the current year's "Annual Facility Report" to the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services
8. Typically only one grant per fiscal year per municipality

Step-by-Step Application Process:

1. Complete the Application Form - Download the official grant application from nhthebeautiful.org (Adobe Acrobat Reader required)

2. Gather Required Documentation:
- Completed application form
- Addendum including:
- Description of present operation
- Proposed operation details
- Methods of collection
- Effect on public
- Economics information (recyclable sales, cost avoidance, etc.)
- Ordinance information (mandatory or voluntary recycling, pay-by-bag or other user fee based system)

3. For Equipment Requests, Include:
- Name of equipment supplier
- Specification sheets
- Equipment descriptions
- Vendor proposals and price quotations

4. Submit Application:
- Must be received at least 14 days prior to board of directors' meeting
- Submit to New Hampshire the Beautiful, Inc.

5. Board Review and Approval:
- Board meets to review applications according to submission deadlines
- Priority given to communities demonstrating greatest need, where funding can help greatest number of people, and where money has not been previously expended

6. Project Execution:
- Project must be fully executed within 6 months of grant notification
- One extension of 3 months may be allowed (request must be received before initial 6-month period ends)
- Grants paid as reimbursement after equipment purchased and installed
- Grant funds issued only upon satisfactory documentation and inspection

7. Follow-Up:
- Report requested one year after award to measure impact on recycling process
