Overview

NOTE: The Morris Stulsaft Foundation is only accepting applications from returning grantees at this time.Purpose of the Foundation Dedicated to the well-being of Bay Area children and youth. We fund organizations with strong and effective leadership that prepare children and youth from low-income households for fulfilled and productive lives. Early Childhood Education (serves ages 0 to 5) We fund organizations with strong and effective leadership that prepare children and youth from economically vulnerable households for fulfilled and productive lives. The foundation believes that early childhood education is enhanced by: Incorporating a “whole-child” approach that ensures each child, in each school, is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged • Engaging parents and caregivers in the pre-school experience and encouraging them to support their children’s learning • Supporting professional development of early childhood teachers, which encourages learning through play, movement, use of the senses, outdoor experiences, and/or creative activity Strong applicants will be infant, toddler, and pre-school centers that demonstrate a commitment to quality early childhood development through program design, excellent facilities, family engagement, and qualified staff. The foundation is also open to requests from third-party organizations that provide high quality professional development to the type of centers outlined above, and/or develop the early childhood expertise of Transitional Kindergarten teachers.

Eligibility

Grants are geographically limited to organizations headquartered in and serving the five San Francisco Bay Area counties of Alameda, Marin, northern San Mateo (extending south to Redwood City), San Francisco, and west Contra Costa.The Foundation considers capital requests by invitation only.The Foundation may request to make a site visit to a program or invite an applicant to present to the Board.Only one request from an organization will be funded in a 12-month period.Organizations may receive funding for up to three consecutive years.After three consecutive years of funding, an organization must take a one-year break before submitting a new application.Please note that receiving one grant is not a commitment to future funding.

Ineligibility

The Foundation does not award grants to individuals or independent schools. The Foundation does not support conferences, events, endowments, fund development, or deficit reduction.The Foundation does not support psychological services to individuals or case management services.The Foundation does not make multi-year grants, but subsequent requests may be considered. Organizations may receive funding for up to three consecutive years. After three consecutive years of funding, an organization must take a one-year break before submitting a new application. Please note that receiving one grant is not a commitment to future funding.
