Overview

Mooneyhan Family Foundation The Mooneyhan Family Foundation was formed by the family of Dr. Jerry Mooneyhan in April 2001 to pay tribute to his life. Dr. Mooneyhan was a dentist in Johnson City, Tenn., where he was involved in a variety of community endeavors. He was also the inventor of an endodontics tool, a flexible root canal file made from nickel titanium. After his untimely death to lung cancer in 1997, Dr. Mooneyhan’s family sought a way to remember and honor his life.The Mooneyhan Family Foundation strives, through grantmaking, to carry on Dr. Mooneyhan’s vision of building on a community’s strengths to improve life for all. The Foundation supports organizations that help people revitalize their communities, focusing on their strengths, while recognizing areas for improvement, by building relationships between local organizations and the community’s citizens. Target Areas Education enhancing literacy in childrenworking with schools, families, and community organizations that serve young people to support their intellectual and social development Cultural Enrichment supporting initiatives designed to increase awareness of and appreciation for the arts as well as cultural and historic heritage. Spiritual Development partnering with local communities and churches to support Christian programs that benefit families and youth.

Eligibility

Grants are awarded only to nonprofit, charitable organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and other eligible tax-exempt organizations. Even though the Foundation may decide to award a multi-year grant, applicants should apply for one-time funding.Your organization may apply for funding each calendar year.

Ineligibility

To conserve resources, the Foundation does not consider more than one proposal from the same organization during each calendar year. The Foundation generally does not consider requests for support in the following areas: annual campaigns, endowments, fundraising events, general operating support, individuals, requests of a political nature, large public charities, and government agencies.
