Mini Grants Initiative: Retention of Diverse Talent

Funder: Vibrant Pittsburgh and the Urban Affairs Foundation (part of the Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh)

Overview: This collaborative funding initiative promotes diverse communities in the Pittsburgh region by supporting projects that increase civic engagement of diverse and immigrant communities. Two winning organizations will each be awarded $25,000 from a combined $50,000 pool ($25,000 from each partner organization).

    Eligible Projects

    Projects must:
  • Tackle vital work of diverse talent retention in the greater Pittsburgh region
  • Create opportunities for civic engagement that result in a more inclusive and engaged multicultural region
  • Be collaborative by engaging diverse communities, organizations, or partners

Past funded project types include:

  • Health and human services

  • Housing

  • Education

  • Mentoring

  • Professional networking

  • Social support

  • Welcoming initiatives

  • Job-connection programs for refugees and immigrants
    • Eligibility Requirements

    • Applicant Type: Lead organizations must be 501(c)3 non-profit status
    • Geographic: Must maintain physical presence in Pittsburgh-New Castle-Weirton Combined Statistical Area
    • Partnerships: Organizations can partner with other nonprofits, academic institutions, religious organizations, community groups, businesses, and employee resource groups
    • Prior Recipients: Past Mini Grants funding recipients are encouraged to apply
    • Project Type: Both new and continuing initiatives are eligible

    Selection Process

    1. All applications screened by staff from Vibrant Pittsburgh and Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh 2. Selected proposals reviewed by Mini Grant Review Committee comprised of representatives from Vibrant Pittsburgh and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh's Community Relations Council
