Community Foundation for Northern Virginia The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia (CFNOVA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 1978 that advances the Northern Virginia region through strategic philanthropy and community leadership. Its mission is to uplift the region by aligning compassion with action, working toward a thriving, inclusive community where everyone has access to opportunity and vital resources. Guided by a strategic plan focused on social and economic mobility, opportunities for all, inclusive economic growth, and community resilience, CFNOVA stewards charitable funds, awards competitive grants and scholarships, conducts research, and connects donors with local organizations addressing critical needs. Its funding priorities include support for nonprofit services in areas such as child and youth development, education, health and safety net services, aging, intellectual and developmental disabilities, military families, the arts, the environment, and scholarship support for students, with more than $10 million in grants and scholarships awarded in 2024. Micron STEM Opportunity Fund The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia’s Micron STEM Fund supports efforts to expand high-quality STEM learning opportunities for underserved students in Northern Virginia, in partnership with Micron. The fund invites nonprofits and educational institutions serving rising 6th–12th grade students to apply and prioritizes programs aligned with semiconductor career pathways and high-demand technology fields. Competitive proposals focus on engineering, robotics, computer science, applied math, physics, chemistry, artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and technology integration, with a required AI learning component. Applications that demonstrate a strong Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) framework are favored. Programs primarily centered on life sciences, healthcare, or medical education are not prioritized. Preference is given to initiatives serving students in Title I schools, with allowable activities that may also support teachers and family engagement to strengthen long-term STEM capacity and workforce readiness.Eligibility
