Michigan Achievement Scholarship

Funder: State of Michigan

Geographic Scope: Michigan public and private institutions; available to Michigan high school graduates

Award Purpose: Provides significant financial aid to Michigan high school graduates (Class of 2023 and after) and those who achieve a high school equivalency certificate to help cover college or training costs.

Award Amounts by Institution Type:

  • Michigan Community Colleges: Up to $2,750 per year for up to 3 years

  • Michigan Public Universities: Up to $5,500 per year for up to 5 years

  • Michigan Private Colleges/Universities: Up to $4,000 per year for up to 5 years

  • Eligible Training Providers: Up to $2,000 per year for up to 2 years
  • Coverage: Program is estimated to cover:

  • 94% of students attending community colleges

  • 79% of students attending private colleges/universities

  • 76% of students attending public universities
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Graduate from Michigan high school in 2023 or after

  • OR achieve high school equivalency certificate in 2023 or after

  • Have Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) of $25,000 or less based on FAFSA

  • Note: Families making $150,000+ per year could qualify
  • What is Covered: Program covers remaining balance of tuition and mandatory fees after other state and federal financial aid have been applied.

    Application Process

    1. Complete FAFSA: Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form as soon as possible
    2. Eligibility Determination: Eligibility is automatically determined by FAFSA results
    3. EFC Threshold: Students with Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) of $25,000 or less are likely eligible
