Michigan Corrections Officer Grant Program

Geographic Scope: Michigan Department of Corrections employees at participating Michigan community colleges

Award Purpose: Provides free tuition for corrections officers to complete required college credits for employment.

Funding Covers: Tuition and mandatory fees at participating community colleges

Program Requirements:

• State law requires corrections officers to complete 15 college credits for employment
• Glen Oaks participates in this state grant program

Eligibility Requirements - ALL must be met:

• Employed by Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC)
• Have not earned 15 college credits
• Eligible for grant program with approval of MDOC
• Receive approval from MDOC for the program
• Enroll at a participating Michigan community college

Institution Participation:

• Glen Oaks Community College participates
• Offers both face-to-face and online class formats for flexibility

Application Process

1. Employment Requirement: Must be employed by Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC)
2. MDOC Approval: Receive approval from MDOC to participate in the program
3. Credit Status: Must not have already earned 15 college credits
4. Enrollment: Enroll at a participating Michigan community college (including Glen Oaks Community College)
5. Course Selection: Choose from face-to-face or online class formats
