Overview

Society of Toxicology Founded in 1961, the Society of Toxicology (SOT) is a professional and scholarly organization of scientists from academic institutions, government, and industry representing the great variety of scientists who practice toxicology in the US and abroad. The Society’s mission is to create a safer and healthier world by advancing the science and increasing the impact of toxicology. Guiding Principles SOT operates under four guiding principles. These four principles are: Serving the needs of the scientific discipline and our members to enhance human, animal, and environmental health.Life-long learning and intellectual scientific stimulation.Diversity of representation in all activities of the Society.Integrity. Description The Sheldon D. Murphy Memorial Fund was established in memory of Sheldon D. Murphy, a SOT Charter Member, and its fourteenth President (1974–1975). Dr. Murphy was an inspiring leader who made substantial contributions in toxicology education, research and public service. This Memorial Fund honors Dr. Murphy’s considerable contributions to the science of toxicology. Nominee Selections are made by an appointed committee of Mechanisms Specialty Section officers based on the overall scientific quality of the abstract and the relevance to mechanistic toxicology. Note graduate student and postdoctoral trainee applications will be judged separately.
