Society of Toxicology Founded in 1961, the Society of Toxicology (SOT) is a professional and scholarly organization of scientists from academic institutions, government, and industry representing the great variety of scientists who practice toxicology in the US and abroad. The Society’s mission is to create a safer and healthier world by advancing the science and increasing the impact of toxicology. Smith Graduate Student Award is among the original awards offered by the Mechanisms Specialty Section. This award honors the career of Carl C. Smith and typifies the commitment of Dr. Smith and his wife Tee to the advancement of graduate education in the field of toxicology. This award is made possible by the Carl C. Smith Student Mechanisms Award Fund of the SOT Endowment. The prestige of this award is well-appreciated among Society members and the field at-large. Applicants are encouraged to submit their best work.

Eligibility

The requirements for the award are:An abstract submitted for the 2026 SOT Annual Meeting with the graduate student as the presenting author.The applicant must be a graduate student member of the SOT (pending membership status ok).The applicant does not have to be a member of the Mechanisms Specialty Section; however, if not a member, one of the letters of recommendation (see below) should include a note of sponsorship by a current member of the Mechanisms Specialty Section.PhD candidate (i.e., passed comprehensive exams) at the time of the 2026 SOT Annual Meeting. You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member.
